I was in Italy last year and visited many of the same sites. I loved Pompeii and we had hoped to visit Vesuvius, but there was torrential rain and we weren't able to visit. We spent 3 days in Sorrento with a side trip to Capri. Naples was not my favorite either and luckily we were only there to get the train to and from Rome.
